Dottie's, Days Inn, Element Lounge and the Royale

Woke up some time in the afternoon.
I was kinda pissed with Priceline.com... I had to dip out of Mars' spot because he wasn't gonna be around. So I went online to book a spot. I did that "Name your own price shit with priceline. They asked me what area so I put downtown San Fran. They Booked me at a place 25 miles out of town. Oh well. That's what I get for trying to get a room for $40. Take it a s a loss right? Ended up getting a room at the Days Inn in the Civic Center Area for a decent price.
Mars took me to this dope spot called Dotties True Blue Cafe. Absolutely the Best Breakfast style eating I've had at a restaurant in years! After that we went back to his spot, i got my shyt and we took a cab to the Days Inn. Mars Jumped out ahead of time to go where he was going. What a cool cat.
Chilled at the Days Inn and entered all the people that I had met over the past week into my database. Wow... like 150 people. I've been busy huh? Now if they'd all just buy CDs Maybe I can continue to bring my music back out here and to more people. I ain't tryin' to be rich I just wanna spread the word and be comfortable doing it. Is that too much to ask for support to do? I don't think so. So if you're reading this, buy a CD. If you already have one, buy another as a gift for someone you know.
Anyway... I stayed in the room just about all day entering stuff in the database and working on some new songs. Wait till y hear em. You're gonna be like... OH SHIT!
So at around 1:30pm my homey Chase (Paper Chase Music) from Sacramento, who is a beast on the beats, came out with his homey and we went for some Pizza at this spot not too far from where I was staying and not too far from where the Element Lounge is. Talk about GREASY Pizza! Funny shyt. Chase is Leon's brother... you know the trumpet player from last night. Crazy right. Met em both at Music Strategies and I'm linking up with both of them 24 hours apart in San Francisco. NETWORK man!!!! (That's my new Super hero name).
We went to Element Lounge after that and I met up with Illmaculate (Portlant, OR) and The Saurus. Some cats I know from the jumpoff battles (who happen to be the World Rap Champs) and the Sand People (Portlant, OR) who I met up with the last time I was in San Fran. Crazy that all of these people happen to be in San Fran again when I'm in San Fran.
They all killed it on Stage. I had to dip out though. My peeps across town at the Royale were waiting for me... Jumped in a cab and got there in less than 10 minutes. Ran into the joint and kicked it with my homey Won Way Possibul, my homegirl Sae and a bunch of other people I hadn't seen since May. What a welcome. They rocked a couple of songs and then they opened the mic. I had a blast! showed up and killed it as well. When it was all said and done I met a bunch of new people and got the mic twice. I ended up at this spot called Vietnam getting some food on the solo tip. Jumped in a cab and made it back to the hotel. More data entry and rhyme writing then I packed my bags for the flight home.

Make Your Mark... All Soul... Bruno's

Woke up on the air mattress with a stiff neck... I think there's something about being so low to the ground that fucks with the human psyche. The air-bed was comfy but it still seems as if I was on the damn floor. Oh well. had to get up and get to this "Make Your Mark" conference that Microsoft and Avid were throwing. I missed the one in NYC and I wasn't gonna miss this one since I just so happened to be in San Francisco at the same time. Got up on this chicken burrito at a spot down the block from M.C. Mars's joint. He came with me and then we went to the conference which was walking distance. These hills in San Fran are killer!
Met up with Tim Sweeney again who happened to be a speaker on the panel. Met up with some ill musicians, 3D illustrators and graphic designers in the Bay Area. Network-O-Rama!
I also won a dope M-Audio "portable studio" bag in a raffle at the end of the seminars. It's worth like $70 bucks... Ha! How U like that... Now I'm fresher than fresh sucka! Don't hate because you're broke... Now all i need to add is my "Bling Tattoo" and it's on!!!!
After that I went to Mars' spot and dropped off my new bag and got back in the street and got on the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit, basically the subway in the bay area) and trooped out to Oakland to meet All Soul. We went out to Berkeley so he could practice B-Boying at the college. It was cool getting to build with him beforehand. He let me hear some new killer beats. We didn't get a chance to record anything new this time though. It was a good time. Then I trooped it back to San Fran to get to this spot called Bruno's where my homey Leon (the dude from Sacramento with the trumpet from the Music Strategies Conference) was going to be performing. Shyt was dope. It was crazy to be from NYC and walk onto a spot and multiple people were like "Yo Tah wussup!". Megan from music strategies was there with her boyfriend too. She is a powerhouse. If she was in NYC you could bet your bottom $ that she'd be the person I'd hire as a manager. Knew a few cats from the band that was playing too. They killed it on some soulful Curtis Mayfield with a twist of Prince and P-Funk. M.C. Mars showed up and we freestyled after the band finished and the DJ spun. It was dope. Made some more friends and kiscked it. Me and Mars then hit this Late Night Burrito Spot. I'm getting Burrito-ed out... Bakc to Mars' crib on the bus. Had a dope conversation about politics and 1984 by George Orwell...

Good times... good people...

San Franciscooooooooooooo

Landed in San Francisco. My good homey Orukusaki picked me up from the airport. We drove into the city to drop my stuff by M.C. Mars' crib. He was letting me crash at his spot for the first two nights. Fucked up thing is that the electric company shut off his lights in error so he was kinda pissed off. Yikes. So Orukusaki and I went to pick up his new collabo CD (which I just happen to be on) from the manufacturer. Nice!!! We went to this Thai spot and had some serious grub. Ruk sold a CD to the hostess. That's what I'm talkin' about! This dude is like the Mayor of San Francisco. Everywhere I go in town people know this cat. We went to this spot called 111 Mia gallery and met up with a few of his peeps to hand off a few copies of the CD. He's flying out to Korea in the AM so it was cool to get to chill with him for a minute. He took me out to meet his fam and run up into Target so I could buy an air mattress to crash on at M.C. Mars's crib. Then dropped me back in the city.

Mars' lights were back on. We went to get a Corona around the way and then I went to meet up with another friend of mine named Xiomara. Unexpectedly, she took me to this gay bar where her best friend worked. Dudes were tryin' to mack me like I was a girl. It was crazy. Had a Long Island Iced Tea on the house. I know I'm all about women so it ain't a thing for me. Dudes need to stop being homophobic. I think straight dudes get scared of gay dudes because they're afraid that on the inside they might be gay too. On the real, let it go and go get you some P*$$y. Now I see how girls get all these free drinks and never give anything up. Not even a phone number. Just smile and play along like you're listening and don't pay attention to a word they're saying. HAHAHA!!! It was crazy seeing how many of these "thug looking" dudes were kissing other "thug looking" dudes deep and passionately. Nobody disrespected me and nobody got up in my face. The DJ was dope too. So after my drink I said "good night" and got in a cab and went back to M.C. Mars's spot.

Adventures!

Music Strategies Day 3

Last day of the conference. Lots of building. Lots to remember. Lots more to do.
After all was said and done, we went to Santa Monica to see Phil and Chris Play and this time we made it. Rachel Lynn Showed up, Bart Ryan Came along, Ryan also came along. The show was dope. They asked me to get on stage and do something so I did this really strange freestyle that Titus got half of it on tape. It was crazy. I'm gonna put the clip up here soon.

After that we went to this place that Rachel Lynn frequents. (Sorry I forgot the name). It was a Burlesque funk/blues type of event. WOW! Never seen anything like it. Women hanging from the ceiling, The band was BANANAS! There was smoke everywhere it was like something out of a movie. I Snapped a few pics but the bouncer made me stop. After the band the DJ got on and spun some really dope Hip-Hop form the 90s. Then he stopped because the clubs in LA close at 2am.... NYC... 4am.... Dammit! We went outside and had an ill freestyle cypher. This girl started to take off all of her clothes and we made her stop. She was as drunk as hell. Her boyfriend was right there (drunk too) talkin' bout, "It's OK we're swingers". And y'all say shyt is wild in NYC?

Got back to the hotel. Hyphen One said it was the best time he's ever had.

Can you say "Good Times"

Music Strategies Day 2

Called my moms to with her Happy Birthday.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY!
I love that woman!

Today after the Seminar we had a bunch of Live performances at the Westin.
So much talent of sooo many different genres. It was amazing. Jazz, Singer/Songwriters, R&B, Rock, Pop, Hip Hop... People from all over the country and out of the country. I rocked "Life and Death Dichotomy" with some live instrumentation by Bart Ryan and Vocals by Ingrid Powell. It was crazy powerful. Would love to do it again like that. I'll put the video clips I got up soon. After that we grabbed a bunch of people and got in a van and drove about 45 minutes away from the hotel to catch a show and perform with "Two Word Name" but by the time we got there the show was over. Oh well. We did our best. Back to the bar for more freestyle and fun. Titus was incredible on the freestyle tonight. Hyphen-One ripped it on beatbox an frestyles too. It was so dope!

More to come

Music Strategies Day 1

Titus' plane was delayed and then they lost his luggage. The same shyt happened in May.. What the hell? After a night of freestyling in the bar and hanging out till 4am which is 7am NY time, we got up and got into this three day network-a-thon/learning fest. Always learn new shyt and meet great people to network with at this conference. I highly recommend it. Musicstrategies.com Met up with a ton of dope people I was supposed to check my man Bintu but time was too short. Gotta catch him when I'm back in May.

We got in the pimped out (not) Corolla and went to pick up Rachel Lynn and go to see Chris Valenti and Phil Johnson at a spot in West Hollywood (which is nowhere near North Hollywood... dammit). Fuckin around we got there late and missed the show. Ended up at a spot down the road eating some late night styled grub even though it wasn't late. Of course I ordered a chicken caesar with the driest chicken in the world!

We got back to the Westin and got on the piano in the lobby and this dope cat named Leon ripped it on the trumpet. Rachel Lynn, Molly Zenobia and a few other people beat the piano up bad! I did a 15 minute freestyle that even impressed me. Wish I had that on tape. Sold a few CDs at the bar and made friends with some people from a few other conferences. Lots of gig connects and good shyt. Amazing freestyles have been coming out of me this weekend. People are buying me drinks left and right. Is this how celebrities feel... except with bigger bank accounts?

Hit me!

Dammit... West Hollywood is nowhere near North Hollywood

Man listen. I figured... Let me get a rental in North Hollywood since I was in West Hollywood for the day. Shyt ain't like Flatbush and East Flatbush. It was a $25 cab ride away... with no traffic!
MISTAKE!
Anyway. I then had to drive for almost an hour to get back to Chris' place to get my stuff. Yes, there was a shitload of traffic on the way back. I could have waited for him to get home and just drive me to the Westin where I was gonna be staying. There was a rental place right there. I could have even taken a cab there instead of going all the way to North Hollywood. Oh well. Money comes and money goes just like time right? You should see me mackin' in my 4 door Toyota Corolla. Don't hate. I know you want to get in and ride with me!
Got to the Westin and Hyphen One was there waiting for me. Asleep in the lobby. Checked into the room and got ready for this cocktail reception for the Music Strategies Conference.
Titus should be landing soon too. Good times await!

Ah Yessss Back on the Wesssst!

I landed in LA today and Chris Valenti Picked me up from the airport.
What a cool cat. Crashed at his joint after I went to a party called "Low End Theory" (yes just like A Tribe Called Quest's Album) with Jessica Ramos (thanks for putting me on to that spot). I have never been in an open outdoor spot with sooo much herb in the air in the US. It was like Jamaica, on the real. The place was packed and they had like 3 DJs spinning. The one on the main stage was tearing it up with Drum and Bass and the crowd was not moving at all. They just stood there and watched. It was kinda freaky. Then the band got on (Forgive me for not remembering the name. I'm probably buzzed from being around all that weed smoke) was dope. This cat did a live painting that changed into like 8 things before he was done. The crowd did not move the entire time. They cheered at the end of the set but they still did not move. Strange but cool. After that we swung over to China Town and got a pork bun form this dope Chinese spot for like 75 cents. Good times. Feels good to be back!

The ReddOK Funktion 2K7

Flatbush... we're back!!! (Pics coming soon)

Vox Pop. The first really chilly night of the season.
Nice turnout.
Fantastic line-up.

DJ Polarity spun for a minute keeping the crowd's necks nodding until the show started up.

First up FiveFive had to cancel at the last minute and could not perform so Super King Armor was up first and ran through a short but dope set of selections from his forthcoming album "The Werewolf Lullabies" and my favorite song of his... "If you're not with me now".

Then Conscious ran through another short set of his high powered "Eklektic" joints with some throwbacks from what he said was from like 1996.

Then Jahs Son got up and rocked some R&B for the Ladies. Nice work man!

After that I called up this cat named definition that I met at Nuyorican Poets Cafe. He rocked this ill poem the ladies lost their minds.

After that Radikal (my mystery opener) got up and tore the stage up with some Roots Reggae styled shyt. 37 Deep was in the spot big time. This dude is no joke.

I got on next and dedicated my set to a colleague of mine that was recently hit by a truck while crossing the street. She is in Critical Condition as we speak. I opened up the set with "Life and Death Dichotomy". The crowd was really feelin it. After the song was over I asked everyone to raise up both hands in the air. Then I asked everyone to grab the hand of the person next to them. It was really beautiful. Nobody wad fearful and everyone felt the connection. Pure dopeness to see a room full or people linked together. Rocked my set with the utmost force. Did a new joint called "Script Flip Flash". They went bananas! Coole High was surprised. This is the first song I performed off of the album I'm doing with him. Happy Birthday man!

After I got off, Charlotte busted down this dope assed poem that I also saw her rip at Nuyorican Poets when I met definition. She's dope!

Coole High Headlined and what a close! This dude has the charisma of Satan mixed with the genuine heart of Christ. Fantastic set. U people should come out when I tell U to. If you were there, then you know what I'm talking about. If not, Make sure you don't miss out on the November 16th show. It'll be my biggest show of 2007. Pianos, NYC. Peep the shows page on TahOnline.com of the sidebar of this blog for more info.
